Dennis Maara became the first amateur golfer to qualify for the 2023 Magical Kenya Open golf championships following his victory at the Kenya Amateur Match-Play, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) that came to an end today at par 72 Royal Nairobi golf club.
Coming from Limuru golf club, Maara beat Kenya railways golfer Jay Sandhu at the finals winning in 7-6 in the 36 hole tournament today after teeing off from Thursday.
Maara beat Kenya Amateur Stroke Play Champion Adel Balala 1-up in the semis while Sandhu registered 1-up victory against junior golfer Njoroge Kibugu.
In the Match Play, Sandhu had beaten Ebill Omollo 2-1 after dismissing junior golfer Mikael Kihara in the second round having started with a win against Willy Mastamet.
A total of 90 players had entered this year’s championship which attracted players from Ethiopia, Tanzania and Uganda
