Chepkirui and Chebet to battle for 1,500m medals

Reigning World under 20 1,500m champion Purity Chepkirui and youngster Brenda Chebet will be chasing the 1,500m women medals following their qualification today at the ongoing world under 20 Athletics championships in Cali, Colombia.

Chepkirui, who won last year’s title will be hoping to retain her title by using her experience.

Today, she finished in third position at the semifinals in 4:19.94 behind the heat 1 winner Mebriht Mekonen (4:18.97), Addison Wiley (4:19.39) and Danielle Verster of South Africa coming 4th timing 4:21.45 for a small q.

Chebet on the other hand won in her third heat after timing 4:12.20 followed by Turkish Dilesh Kocak (4:14.90), Japan’s Yuya Sawada (4:15.29) and Norwegian Ingeborg Ostgard in 4:16.36.
