Goseta dominate in football and volleyball as school games start

Goseta Boys Dominated the Kwanza Sub-County kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) championships played on Monday at the Kwanza Friends secondary school.

The school won both the volleyball and football titles ahead of Trans Nzoia County school Games

In volleyball, which was postponed to Monday afternoon, Goseta under the tutelage of Kennedy Osundwa defeated Lunyu Boys in a thrilling five-setter final encounter to earn the title.

Osundwa said that his side struggled at the finals but managed to win as they plan to beef up the squad to compete well at the county level.

“Our team really struggled to win this final. We are not that good but we shall put in more efforts to ensure that we deliver at the county level. Our target is to play at the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association in Arusha, Tanzania,” said Osundwa.

Goseta managed to win the first sets in 25-18 and 26-24 but they failed to secure an automatic win when Lunyu came from the two sets down to level in 24-26 and 19-25, pushing the game to the 5th set when the champions won in 15-13.

“Our opponents were so determined to secure a win that is why they took the game to the final and 5th set. They ensured that they didn’t lose hope but the last gasp gave us a win,” added Osundwa.

In football under 19, the school rekindled the 2019 edition when they beat Namanjalala 5-0 on Sunday to qualify for county championships.

In 2019, the Trans Nzoia school, with the under 16 category, played all the way to the nationals and lost all their matches in the preliminary rounds.

Osundwa said that they want to ensure that they reach the finals in Arusha since the under 16 is not on the calendar this year.

“Our aim is Arusha. We have been training well and that is why we managed to win the final by a big margin,” he said.

Louis Igathi grabbed a brace with Emmanuel Omondi, Hamisi Otieno and Brandon Wafula scoring a goal each for the 5-0 win.

In football, they have been pooled alongside Mukuyu from Cherangany and Japata at the county championships.
