Kenya premier League side Wazito FC defeated National Super League team Murang’a Seal in the promotion cum demotion play-off match played today Thika stadium.
The Fred Ambani coached side won 2-1 in first leg ahead of Sunday’s return leg that will be hosted by Murang’a at the St Sebastien Park with the winner either remaining on the KPL or demoted while the other will be demoted or remain in the second tier league.
Wazito custodian Omar Adisa was the toast of the day, saving a penalty in stoppage time to give his side the much-needed edge heading into the return leg.
Tyson Otieno fired scored first for Wazito in the 23rd minute before Curtis Wekesa scored the second in the 76th minute but Murang’a scored a consolation.
Wazito wrapped up the top-tier season third from the bottom while Seal finished third in the NSL to seal slots in the playoffs.
Both APS Bomet and Kirinyaga-based Fortune Sacco secured automatic promotion to the top tier after concluding the season first and second respectively.
The two sides have replaced Mathare United and Vihiga Bullets who were relegated from the topflight league after a torrid season.
