Former Kenya premier league (KPL) champions Sofapaka and reigning champion Gor Mahia registered wins as AFC Leopards drew in the midweek KPL matches asplayed at Machakos stadium.
Kepha Aswani and John Avire were on target for 2009 champions to beat ten man Western Stima 2-0 at Machakos stadium to close the gap between them and leaders Gor Mahia who defeated Chemelil Sugar at Awendo.
Sofapaka’s win maintains them in the second position with 56 points from 29 matches.
Stima were forced to end the match with ten men after Berry Kote was sent off in his second bookable yellow cards.
Zoo Kericho came from a goal down to draw against AFC leopards at Machakos. Striker Paul Were netted first for Leopards before Johnstone Ligare leveled for Zoo in a dramatic match.
With two missed penalsties for both Leopards and Zoo, the shared the points. Ezekiel Owade, the Leopards keeper saved the first penalty played by his counterpart Martin Elung’ati while Whyvone Isuza hit the cross bar.
Gor Mahia were 0-2 winners against their hosts Chemelil, the same score in the first leg.
Kenneth Muguna and Samuel Onyango netted the two goals as the champions maintained their top position with 63 points, 7 better than Sofapaka.
In other matches, Kariobangi Sharks were 3-2 winners against mathare United at Kasarani while Vihiga United lost 0-2 to the visiting Bandari FC at Bukhungu stadium.
Tomorrow, Nzoia Sugar takes on Kakamega Homeboyz at Sudi stadium while Sony Sugar plays Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) at Afraha as Ulinzi Stars and Tusker hosts Posta Rangers and Mount Kenya United at Afraha and Machakos stadium respectively.
