Chebet, Kiptoo rule Nairobi Cross country show

Former world junior 2,000m steeplechase champion Sandra Chebet and upstart Silas Kiptoo won the Nairobi Region cross country titles ahead of the National Cross Country Championships next Saturday at Uhuru Gardens.

Representing Lang’ata, Chebet edged out Caroline Gitonga from Kasarani to triumph in 37:05.2 as former world junior 1,500m champion Sammary Cherotich from Dagoretti romped home third in 37:15.1 to qualify.

Kiptoo won the men’s title in 31:33.3 ahead of Naibei Kiplimo from Kasarani to second place in 31:57.5 as Joel Melly and John Mburu were in third and fourth in 32:06.9 and 32:29.8 respectively.

Londiani’s Trizah Cherotich, who battled for Lang’ata, clocked 21:56.4 to beat teammates Ann Naasisho (22:08.4) and Hildah Chebet (22:48.5) for women’s Under-20 title.
