FIFA World Cup: Cape Verde shocks the world, joins big league in round 32

Cape Verde has joined other top African nations to qualify into the round 32 of the ongoing FIFA World Cup that is co-hosted by Canada, The USA and Mexico.

By the Thursday morning, seven out of ten nations from Africa that made it to the world cup 2026 have qualified into the knockout stages.

The little known Verde has joined in the big leagues like Mexico, France, Canada, South Africa, Japan, Netherlands, Brazil, Morocco, Ivory Coast, Ecuador, Sweden, Ghana, Portugal, Egypt, England, Paraguay, Argentina, Germany, the United States, Colombia, Switzerland, Norway, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Spain.

After finishing second in pool H with a draw against Saudi Arabia and a population of 525, 000 people, Cape Verde will represent Africa alongside Ivory Coast, Ghana, Morocco, South Africa and Egypt.

Making their debut at the World Cup, Cap Verde started off with a 0-0 draw against former champions Spain, followed by 2-2 draw with Uruguay then a barren draw with Saudi Arabia to collect three points from three matches.

With the victory, they now face reigning champions Argentina on at Miami Stadium on July 3rd.

Spain topped the pool followed by Verde then Uruguay as Saudi Arabia tailed.
