Hosts United States of America, England and Belgium have stormed into the round of 16 following their victories in round 32 of the ongoing FIFA World Cup co-hosted by USA, Mexico and Canada.
England 2-1 Congo DRC
In the first encounter on Wednesday, Harry Kane scored twice as England came from goal down to down the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) 2-1.
DRC captain Brian Cipanga scored early for a 1-0 lead in the 7th minute but Thomas Tuchel’s boys managed to snatch a 2-1 win at the end of the final whistle to book Mexico in the round of 16 at the Estadio Azteca on Sunday.
Returning into the World Cup after 52 years, DRC’s The Leopards needed a win to set the record but that was shut by Kane’s goals in the 75th and 86th minute.
Belgium 3-2 Senegal
Belgium were forced to come from 2-0 down to beat Senegal 3-2 in a extra time following a 2-2 draw in regulation time.
Youri Tielemans converted from the sport in the 125th minute to hand Belgium a slot into the round of 16.
The African champions Senegal scored two successful goals from Habib Diarra opening the score in the 24th minute into break then Ismaila Sarr doubled the score in the 51st minute.
But resilient Belgium slotted in in the 86th minute courtesy of Romelu Lukaku for 2-1 before Tielemans strike in the 89th minute to level and forcing the match into the extra 30 minutes.
Tielemans converted from the spot to hand Belgium a deserved 3-2 win in the 125th minute.
With the victory, Belgium will face co-hosts USA in the round of 16 after beating Bosnia and Herzegovina.
USA 2-0 Bosnia Herzegovina
It was an easy victory for co-hosts USA to beat Bosnia Herzegovina 2-0 at San Francisco Arena.
Despite playing ten men, USA maintained their tempo to win thir second World Cup knockout match.
On the stroke of half time, Folarin Balogun handed USA the first goal for USA in the 45th minute for a 1-0 lead into break.
On resumption, Balogun was red carded in the 64th minute and they had to play ten men but with all that, the managed to secore the second goal through Malik Tillman in the 82nd minute for a 2-0 win.
With the win, they will face Begium in round 16.
