Rwanda’s Celestin Nsanzuwera and Kenya’s Greg Snow were among the standout East African performers at the just-concluded Rwanda Open, a Sunshine Tour event held at Kigali Golf Resort & Villas from 24 to 27 September.
Nsanzuwera produced a strong performance on home soil to finish tied for 25th on 14-under-par 274, following rounds of 68, 69, 70 and 67.
His final-round 67 was his best score of the tournament and helped him finish as the best-placed player from the region behind tournament winner Kyle De Beer of South Africa who finished at an incredible 27-under par total.
Kenya’s Greg Snow also enjoyed an impressive tournament, finishing tied for 35th on 12-under-par 276. Snow opened with a 68 before following it with a superb 66 in the second round and another 68 in the third. He closed with a 74 to finish 12-under-par overall.
Uganda’s Willy Deus Kitata was next among the SunDev players, finishing tied for 50th on six-under-par 282 after rounds of 71, 69, 70 and 72.
His compatriot Kasango Grace finished tied for 56th on five-under-par 283, carding rounds of 71, 69, 73 and 70.
Kenya’s Adel Balala and Njoroge Kibugu both finished tied for 61st on three-under-par 285. Balala, competing as an amateur, returned rounds of 68, 69, 78 and 70, while Kibugu carded 72, 68, 68 and 77.
Kenya’s Jastas Madoya and Uganda’s Gaita Tadeo Rodell finished tied for 63rd on two-under-par 286. Madoya posted rounds of 69, 71, 70 and 76, while Rodell carded 69, 68, 69 and 80.
The performances underline the opportunities being created through the Sunshine Development Tour, which provides players from across the region with a pathway to compete in higher-level tournaments and gain experience alongside established Sunshine Tour professionals.
South Africa’s Kyle De Beer won the Rwanda Open after finishing on 27-under-par 261, with rounds of 66, 65, 66 and 64.
