African Women Club Championship: Kenya Pipeline Stun El Shams in opener

Kenya Pipeline, the volleyball National champions performed superlatively to win their opening match against El Shams of Egypt as African Women’s volleyball Club Championship served off today in Cairo, Egypt.

The title hunt started well with a deserved 3-0 win against the home-side, who were last year’s finalist in the pool C match..

after finishing 5th last year in Tunisia, the champions gave clear indication of the team that is likely to top pool C when the group stages come to a wrap this Saturday.

The Kenyans fought from the front in the first set, winning in 25-23, Atuka being the gem with her watertight blocks and sure spikes.

Pipeline won the second hard fighting set, coming from behind against El Shams to win in 25-22.

Destined for a win, the Kenyan girls also fought from front in the third set to seal the victory in 25-21.

The team will rest on Wednesday before taking on Vision of Uganda on Thursday.

Kenya Prisons who rested on Tuesday take to the court on Wednesday night with a match against Customs of Nigeria. They will be seeking to improve on last year’s Bronze medal performance
