It was all smiles in Cherondo Village, in Tinderet, nandi County when Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba, area MP Julius Melly and Sports Kenya director Pius Metto delivered various goodies to ‘bra’ runner Milcah Shikokoti Menjo today.
The CS, who donated running kits for team Kenya, running shoes, assorted foodstuffs and kshs 200,000 said that her resilience and determination has finally paid off.
“We normally said that talent pays and for her to be in this situation, she had to follow her talent. Without talent we would not be here celebrating this young girls’ exemplary performance ,” he said.
Shikokoti, the mother of one said that she had to walk for 30km from her home to the venue before competing in the 12km senior women and returning back after leaving the one year old son Brighton Kipkoech under the care of her husband Josphat Menjo.
“It was a hard course because I have never run a mountain but it was a good experience. I finished in position 100 but I was happy with it,” said Shikokoti who was accompanied by her husband Menjo.
“Having such people competing in the race uplifted the event and we shall make it better and better next year,” said Melly.
