Athletics Kenya Constitution review: stakeholders call for two tier management system

Just like the Constitution of Kenya 2010, athletes’ stakeholders have called on the federation to consider two tier management systems in the ongoing Athletics Kenya (AK) Constitutional review.

During a meeting held today in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, the veteran athletes led by double Boston marathon champion Moses Tanui, Wilson Kipketer, Hosea Kogo among others said that the management system in the forthcoming elections should have county and national, scrapping the regional level.

While addressing the press, the athletes called upon the federation to ensure inclusivity and transparency in the ongoing exercise.

“This process should not be limited to current officials but should also incorporate views from former runners, coaches, and grassroots representatives who have contributed to the growth of athletics in Kenya,” said Tanui.

They noted that a participatory process would help strengthen governance, accountability, and athlete welfare within the federation.

“Many of us have valuable experience from our years on the track and in management. AK should take our input seriously to create a fair and forward-looking constitution,” said Kogo.

The group also urged Athletics Kenya to conduct public forums across regions to allow stakeholders to give their opinions before the final draft is ratified. They expressed optimism that a well-structured constitution would enhance trust and unity within the athletics fraternity as Kenya continues to maintain its dominance on the global stage
