Barng’etuny, Chepkurui shine at Rift valley Prison Cross country

Kibet Barngetuny and Sheila Chepkurui were crowned the champions of Rift Valley Prisons’ Cross Country Championships held at the Naivasha Maximum Security Prison.

The duo won the 10km titles booking for national Kenya Prison Service championshipos set for 16th January at the Prison Service Training College in Ruiru where they will select the team for national cross country championships in Kisii on February 13th for Africa and world cross country championships in Lome, Togo on March 6th as well as World cross country championships set for March 20th 2021 at the Bathurst, Australia.

Barng’etuny from North Rift Region won the title in 31:04: 66 ahead of compatriot Gideon Kimutai (31:17:65) and Nixon Kiprotich completing the podium as South Rift’s William Matelong was fourth in time of 31:28:20.

South Rift’s Chepkurui won the women’s title timing of 36:44:24 ahead of Josephine Chelangat (42:04.6) also from the South Rift and Nancy Kwambai completed the podium by clocking 42:30:80.
