Captain Koech, Tanui to lead KCB East Africa Tour in Eldoret

Former Eldoret golf club captain Moses Tanui will lead over 200 top golfers at the second leg of KCB East Africa Golf Tour at the nine hole Eldoret golf club tomorrow.

Tanui, the double Boston marathon champion said that he will be at the tee off  to try his luck for the ticket to the grand finale.

“Yes I have been training on the course and at any moment, I expect good results,” said Tanui.

The event comes in the Rift Valley region where a huge field of 200 top players are expected to headline the eagerly awaited tournament that will see action get underway at 7:00 am.

Tanui will be joined by club’s captain Dr. Mathew Koech with the likes of former captains Sandeep Grewal, Jack Tuwei, Jackson Kiprono, James Waweru, among others.

The Eldoret leg comes after the series teed off at the Mombasa golf club last weekend and Koech said that they have received a big entry which will be manageable at the end of the day.

“For the second year running, this amazing club will be part of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour. I cannot wait to see all the golfers who have signed up for this tournament brave the greens. I expect a good outing and I hope that through our partnership with KCB, we will continue to elevate the sport,” said Koech.

According to the draw released by the captain, he will be in the second flight at 7:10am in a four-ball alongside John Tanuis, Koros Kiptoo and Sunjay Dodhia after Micahel Chebii, Mercy Karoney, former Elgeyo Marakwet governor Alex Tolgos and Viraaj Shah being the first on the tee at 7:00am in the morning tee off.

The mid-morning tee off will start at 10:30am with immediate lady captain Faith Mburu playing Virginia Mutei, Erick Yego and Margaret Wabuge while the afternoon tee, the first players will be Nathan Tororei, Silver Chelangat, Dr Wilson Sugut and Edwin Cherop at 12:00pm.

In a bid to further enhance the game, KCB will on Sunday host a juniors’ and ladies’ clinic at the same venue as well as engaging in a tree-planting initiative at the club, ensuring sustainability is at the heart of the golf series.

After the Eldoret edition, the tour will resume action on April 11 at the Kakamega Golf Club for its third leg. KCB will however sponsor club nights at the Railways and Nandi Bears Club in March and early April respectively.
