Captain Isaac Kuto will lead home golfers in this weekend’s edition of the Nandi Bears Open Shield, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series at the par 72 Nandi Bears Club in Nandi County.
After the event was postponed to mourn the late Raila Odinga back in October, the event will be bringing together a strong field of 50 players competing for a prize fund.
The three day event that tees off, Friday November 28th and culminating on November 30th, the event continues to grow in prestige as one of the key competitions on Kenya’s amateur golf calendar.
Kuto alongside defending champion and home player Elly Barno, will be chasing the title after winning last year with an impressive +1.
Barno will return to defend his crown on his home course and the tournament will miss top players like John Lejirma, the 2023 champion who is not participating this year, opening up the field for new challengers.
Despite his absence, the battle for the shield remains intense, with stiff competition expected from top contenders including John Kamais, Amos Odongo, Daniel Kiragu, among others.
With a strong mix of experienced golfers and rising talents, the 2025 edition promises thrilling golf and a tightly contested leaderboard.
The Nandi Bears Club continues its commitment to nurturing competitive amateur golf in Kenya by providing a challenging course, scenic surroundings, and a professionally organized championship environment.
The 2025 Nandi Bears Open Shield is anticipated to deliver memorable moments as players vie for one of the region’s most respected amateur titles
