Reigning Kenya basketball men champion Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) won silver at the concluded Africa Women’s Basketball League in Alexandria, Egypt.
The Kenyan team lost at the finals to hosts Alexandria Sporting Club 59-103 during the finals, making history as the first Kenyan team to finish on podium since they started their first continental trip in 1998. They join Eagle Wings, who bagged bronze in Meknes, Morocco in the 2013 show.
The Anthony Ojukwu coached side said that it was a big achievement and was proud of his girls who lost to a good team and bowed out with dignity. “It was a good outing. We did well and the ladies gave their best,” he noted.
KPA pipped REG 101-97 while the Egyptians stopped Angola side Interclube 100-74 in high-scoring semis. Interclube of Angola beat REG 83-68 to bag the bronze. Equity Bank Hawks finished sixth after suffering 83-53 drubbing at the hands of Customs of Nigeria.
