Kapenguria Heroes and Plateau Queens were crowned the champions of inaugural Chapa Dimba na Safaricom in boys and girls respectively that ended today at Bukhungu stadium, Kakamega County.
Kapengura Herioes shocked Gor Mahia Youth 3-0 in a post match penalties in a final match while Plateau Queens edged out former seciondary schools national champions Tar Tar girls in girls final.
Brian Lumumba, the Kapenguria goalkeeper saved two spot kicks to save his team fromblashes to earn them a million shillings plus a trip to England to meet Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama.
The teams played to a barren draw Lumumba being the best goalkeeper, Ben Ogot from Ombek Red Devils scooped the Golden Boot after scoring four goals while Kapenguria Heroes star, Majak won the Most Valuable Player award.
Kapenguria’s Gabriel Poriot, Fredrick Krop and Collins Kibet converted their penalties while Gor Mahia’s Alpha Onyango and Mathew Mwendwa’s penalties were saved while Geoffrey Omondi played over.
In girls’ final match, Plateau Queens from Nyanza won against Tar Tar girls of Rift valley 4-3 in spot kicks following a one all draw in normaltime.
Plateau won Sh1mn prize and a life time trip to London where they will train for one week as well as receiving mentorship from the tournament’s brand ambassador Victor Wanyama.
Judith Osimbo,Plateau’s keeper won the Golden Glove, Mercy Akinyi scooped the Golden Boot award after netting five goals while Beryl Eshiteku from Plateau was named the Most Valuable Player.
