AIC Chebisaas Boys High School head of co-curricular activities Evans Rotich targets to send the hockey team, swimmers and triple jump athletes to the national championships in Machakos in April.
Speaking ahead of the Rift Valley Regional Championships in Kapsabet this week, Rotich said they have put up enough machinery to support their efforts.
“Last year, I had a basketball team at the regionals where we finished fourth. I now have a hockey team and hope to reach greater heights,” said Rotich.
In the region of 14 counties, Rotich said it will not be easy to manoeuvre to the finals and only one team will be selected for the nationals out of 14.
“I have prepared my boys well. We won’t underrate any team. They have prepared too and are champions from their respective counties,” said Rotich.
“We are playing Poror from Baringo and a school from Kajiado in Pool ‘E’. We are only three in the pool but I won’t take any chances. We have to win, especially in our first match,” added Rotich.
They beat Arnesens 2-0 during the finals played at the Hill School, Eldoret, to book a ticket to the regional games.
The school will present four swimmers; James Yves Harrison, Patrick Macharia, Brian Kirui and Sammy Ngige, competing in freestyle and breaststroke.
“We have been taking them for training sessions at Testimony High School. We hope they we will make it to the national championships,” he added.
They will present just one athlete in track and field, Nicholas Cherutoi, who will compete in the triple jump.
“He is a good athlete. We have taught him jumping tactics with the hope of winning the title,” observed Rotich.
