COSAFA: Coach Richard Kanyi calls 30 players in camp

Richard Kanyi will lead Kenya football national team Harambee Starlets in this year’s Council of Southern Africa Football Association (COSAFA), replacing David Ouma.

The national team reported to the camp at Moi Sports Centre, Kasarani with Kanyi taking over three days ago to guide the team that was invited to participate as a visitor after taking part in Africa Women’s Cup of Nation in Cameroon.

Kanyi is assisted by Mary Odhiambo as the team prepares to play against Mozambique, Swaziland, and Mauritius set for next Month in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.

The Kenyan ladies are making their maiden appearance in the competition which is open to all of Cosafa’s 14 member countries, including Madagascar, Seychelles and South Africa.

A 30-member preliminary squad has been named for the tournament, including Kenya Defence Forces’ Neddy Atieno, who opted out of the Cameroon assignment last year to pursue a career in the military.

The team will use the tournament to prepare for qualifiers of the 2018 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations which begin early next year.
