Cynthia Chepkirui wins Cardiff Cross Country title

Fresh from winning the national cross country under 20 6km title, the reigning Africa under 18 3,000m champion Cynthia Chepkirui made history at the global stage with victory at the Cardiff Cross Country, a prestigious World Athletics Gold Label event.

Chepkirui, both the Chepsaita and Sirikwa cross country winner is among the top Kenya’s rising athletics stars with her impressive mark on the international stage after winning the women’s 6.4km elite race after clocking 20:11.

On October 25th, Chepkirui won the national title, to add on her national under 18 victory ahead of world cross country championships in the USA.

She became one of the first juniors to successfully defend the Junior 6km national title and her performance underscored her growing reputation as one of Kenya’s most promising young distance runners.

She edged out compatriot Sheila Jebet to second in 20:31 with Canadian Ceili Maccabe rounded out the podium in 20:34.

Chepkirui’s back-to-back wins signal the arrival of a new force in women’s cross-country running, as she continues to build momentum toward future international competitions.
