Deaflympic medalists rewarded

Deaflympic medalist were today celebrated by the government following their victory at the concluded 24th edition of Deaflympics Games in Brazil.

The government through the ministry of Sports handed the cash to gold medal winners led by Ian wambui in 5,000m, Symon Kibai who won a double in both 5,000m and 10,000m, Lucas Wanjiru in 3,000m steeplechase and Elkana Rono who the 800m earned a million shillings for each gold.

According to the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Sports Joe Okudo, the silver medalist were 750,000 rewarded

Silver medalists winners were in Mix 4X400 Relay (George Waweru Muthee, LinetFwambaNanjala, Beryl Atieno Wamira and Isaac AtimaTongi), 10000m- Peter Toroitich, 10000m-Serah Wangari Kimani, 1500m- Sharon Jeptarus Bitok, 5000m- Ian Wambui Kahinga, 800- Sharon Jeptarus Bitok and 4x400m Relay (Beryl Atieno Wamira, Linet Fwamba Nanjala, Pamela Atieno Atieno, Sharon Bitok Jeptarus)

Bronze medal pocketed 500,000 and the winners were 10000m- David Kipkogei, 10000m- Grancy Kandagor, Javelin- Kelvin Kipkogei, 400m – Linet Fwamba Nanjala, Golf- Isaac Ogolla Makokha, 3000m Steeplechase- Peter Omari Kokobi, 3000m Steeplechase- Ann Njoki Wangeci, 200m- Beryl Atieno Wamira, women’s 4x100m Relay (Beryl Atieno Wamira, Rael Achieng Wamira, Anzazi Chaka Nyundo and Linet Fwamba Nanjala), 800m -Rebecca Matiko, 5000m –Grancy Kendagor and Men’s 4x400m Relay (Simon Menza Gona, Charles Muthama Mwema, George Waweru Muthee, Isaac Atima Tong’i)

“Cash award is not a favour, it is your right. Team Kenya’s performance further affirmed the nation’s status as a hub for disability sports.  They exemplified great discipline and have made the country proud on many occasions,”  he stated.
