Kenya Captain Dennis Maara will lead other Kenyans at the All Africa Golf Championships that tees off tomorrow in Cairo, Egypt.
Maara, who has won many Kenya Amateur Golf Cham[ionships (KAGC) series across the country is optimistic that Kenya team will perform well at the north African country.
The Limuru golf club, Maara will lead Nyali golfer Adel Balala, Kenya Railways John Lejirma and Kiambu’a Michael Karanga in the four day stroke play championships to battling with other Africa Nations.
He said that Kenya team is best played to finish on the podium and ensure that in future they should have an idea on how to dominate in the continent in matters of golf.
“We have the capacity to stop the dominance of South Africa and win the title. But our main aim is to finish on the podium at the championships when the tournament tees off come Tuesday 27th to Friday 30th,” said Maara.
The captain added that he has faith in his troop that was selected by the Kenya Golf Union to fly the Kenyan flag in various championships across Africa.
“We have been training in Muthaiga ahead of the championships and we left on Saturday, two days before the tournament tees off. We have the best team and that will deliver good results,” he added.
In the stroke play championships, Maara said that South Africa have been dominating the championships because of the facilities they have and seriousness in playing golf and many tournaments.
“The Country has the best golfers and facilities as well as many tournaments on the continent but that does not mean that they cannot be beaten. The right time will come and Kenya, which is coming up very fast will beat them and take over the control of golf in the continent,” explained Maara.
Maara served as the Limuru captain last year before his term came to an end.
Since the team was named, the quartet went ahead to reclaim The Region VI golf title played in Tanzania as well as retaining the Victoria Cup title in Uganda.
