The 1992 Olympic games 10,000m silver medalist said the course has been measured to the standard and if an athlete sets the world record, they have to defend it.
“It is good to do a genuine marathon. We have measured the course to the standard of IAAF or world marathon measures. Our course is standard and if you take a world record we will defend that as a world record for real. We have world measurers that gives all details that entails a marathon. So am proud to say that if one breaks the world record will be recognized,” he said.
Last week, another Boston marathon champion Ibrahim Hussein presented a certified course.
“It’s the most paid marathon in Africa. We want to rate ourselves with the rest of the marathons in the world. We want to make one of the international marathon and that will invite athlete all over the world, this year we expect athletes from outside country.” Said Tanui adding that the race can compare ourselves with small European marathons.
