Electronic Sports Kenya Federation Captain Eric Koira has exuded confidence ahead of the Phygital Contenders tournament set to start this weekend.
With Kenya facing off with the United States of America (USA) and Uzbekistan in pool E, Koira said they have what it takes to win the title in the long week tournament.
“This is an interesting draw as we face top opponents. At this stage, every team is a good team so we just have to keep our confidence and stick to the game plan. I trust that we shall put out a good performance,” said Koira.
The three nations are set to take on each other when the championships starts on July 26th at the ADNEC National Exhibition Centre.
Kenya shall kick off their campaign against USA tomorrow, July 26th before playing Uzbekistan on July 27th with the top team in the group assured to progress to the quarter finals set for July 28th July while the semis and the finals shall be played on the July 31st.
With seven groups of three teams, the group winners and the best performing second place team shall proceed to the quarter finals where the top 4 teams from this competition shall join 12 other teams in the Games of The Future set for December 18-23,2025 in Abu Dhabi.
Team Manager Fedrick Mwabili called on the boys to take a game at a time.
“It is important to take one game at a time. This is not the time to think about the knock out stage. The most important match is the next match, then the other one. Focus should be on the immediate task which we are upbeat about,” said Mwambili.
