Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has suspension all football league fixtures across the country to mourn the football legend and fan Raila Amollo Odinga.
This comes after President William Ruto declared seven days of national mourning of the late former Prime Minister who passed on today in Indian Hospital.
The Federation’s Secretary General Harold Ndege said that all various divisions, Premier League, National Super League, Women’s Premier League, and grassroots competitions, will be put on hold until the conclusion of the mourning period.
The federation also expressed its deep condolences to the Odinga family and joined Kenyans in paying tribute to a man remembered not only for his political legacy but also for his enduring passion for football
Raila, a lifelong supporter of local football and a regular presence at stadiums, was widely regarded as one of the sport’s most influential advocates.
Over the years, he openly supported Gor Mahia and other community-based clubs, emphasizing football’s power to unite the nation.
The move by FKF aligns with the presidential directive that all national institutions and organizations suspend events of a celebratory nature as the country reflects on Odinga’s life and contribution to Kenya’s democracy and social development
