Four Beijing Half athletes stripped their talents

Beijing half marathon medalist have been stripped their medals following a controversial finish last weekend.

The two Kenyans Robert Keter and Willy Mnangata and an Ethiopian Dejene Hailu Bikila were stripped off their medals after the trio, were investigated and revealed that they had deliberately slowed down to allow Chinese He Jie to win.

Jie won the race in 63.44, beating Keter, Mnangata and Bikila by a second.

Today, the disciplinary committee, in a statement said: “The three African runners “actively slowed down in the last two kilometers,” directly influencing the race’s outcome. As a consequence, “trophies, medals, and bonuses will be recovered.”
