Kenyans Purity Kajuju Gitonga and Simon Dudi Ekidor led Kenyans in a 1-2 podium finish at the Barmer Alsterlauf 10km race held on Sunday in Hamburg in Germany.
The 26 year-old led a 1-2 Kenyan podium finish as he took the honors set the new record at the when she ran a personal best of 32:43 that she got last year at the Nacht von Hasbergen where she took the honors, improved on her time as she led 1-2 Kenyan podium finish, as she smashed the previous course record of 31:20 that had been set by Mary Mananu in 2017 with a new course record and personal best of 31:14.
Gitonga was followed a distant later by her compatriot Janet Chepngetich who crossed the finish line in second place in a time of 32:29 with German’s Tabea Themann closing the podium three finishes in 35:08.
German’s Caroline Balduhn and Fenna Merry from the Netherlands finished in fourth and fifth place in a time of 37:00 and 37:21 respectively.
In men, it was similar results when Ekidor won in a time of 29:07 and was followed by Robert Kiplangat Yegon in 29:45 with German’s Fabian Clarkson finishin in third place in a time of 30:30.
The 23 year-old Nicolas Wilde from German and Denmark’s Thijs Nijhuis came home in fourth and fifth place respectively in a time of 30:32 and 30:35 respectively.
The race course record of 28:15 set by Kalipus Lomwai from Kenya in 2016 remains standing.
