Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) shocked reigning and former champions Kenya Prisons men and women in day one of the National Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) semifinal play-offs at the Makande Hall in Mombasa.
In men, the hosts KPA put on a stellar performance to clinch a 3-1 victory over Prison Kenya in a gripping volleyball clash with a score of 25-19, 17-25, 25-20, 25-18.
The James Ontere coached side whose strategies paid off in key moments against Dennis coached showed determination and grit throughout with the second round set for tomorrow at the same venue.
In other men’s semifinal, former champions General Service Unit (GSU) edged out Equity Bank, securing a 3-1 (25-22, 25-21, 20-25, and 25-23) in Game 1 of the best-of-three.
Under the tutelage of Gideon Tarus, GSU will be taking on the second tie tomorrow against Patrick Owino side.
Former women champions Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) surged past KCB in a four-setter thriller, winning 3-1.
As the first match of the day, both KCB, under Japheth Munala and Geoffrey Omondi’s side KPC showcased elite-level volleyball and high intensity before the KPC winning 25-16, 25-18, and 25-23.
In the second match of the day, DCI stunned former champions Kenya Prisons women to claim the first win in a five-setter encounter in 25–21, 12-25, 26–24, 22-25 and 15–12 to ignite scenes of jubilation on and off the court.
