{"id":15770,"date":"2019-05-17T14:55:00","date_gmt":"2019-05-17T14:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dailysport.co.ke\/?p=15770"},"modified":"2019-05-17T15:48:48","modified_gmt":"2019-05-17T15:48:48","slug":"roos-palmer-set-for-kcb-road-to-karem-masters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailysport.co.ke\/roos-palmer-set-for-kcb-road-to-karem-masters\/","title":{"rendered":"Roos, Palmer set for KCB Road To Karem Masters"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Jake Roos and Michael Palmer will be returning to this year\u2019s KCB Karen Masters with fond memories.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both have every reason to be optimistic about their chances on a course they know really well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"epyt-video-wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\"  style=\"display: block; margin: 0px auto;\"  id=\"_ytid_29642\"  width=\"640\" height=\"360\"  data-origwidth=\"640\" data-origheight=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/rCbDImcsChc?enablejsapi=1&#038;autoplay=0&#038;cc_load_policy=0&#038;cc_lang_pref=&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;loop=0&#038;rel=0&#038;fs=1&#038;playsinline=0&#038;autohide=2&#038;theme=dark&#038;color=red&#038;controls=1&#038;disablekb=0&#038;\" class=\"__youtube_prefs__  epyt-is-override  no-lazyload\" title=\"YouTube player\"  allow=\"fullscreen; accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen data-no-lazy=\"1\" data-skipgform_ajax_framebjll=\"\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Roos won the Kenya\nOpen at the same venue in 2014 and has high hopes of racking up his maiden\nMasters title when the Cr\u00e8me de la Cr\u00e8me of Sunshine Tour descends on the Par\n71 Karen Country Club course from June 26-30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Roos<\/em>&nbsp;clinched the\n2014 <em>Kenya Open<\/em>&nbsp;in dramatic\nfashion with a gross total of 10 under par 278 while Palmer carded a remarkable last\nround of 5-under par 67 for a total 18-under par 270 to claim the coveted Karen\nMasters blue jacket last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During\nlast year\u2019s KCB Karen Masters, Roos, wrapped up his spirited campaign on\n12-under to finish seventh and it will be interesting to ascertain just what\u2019s\nup his sleeves this time round. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Roos was the number\none ranked South African amateur golfer before turning professional in 2005 and\nthen joined the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sunshine_Tour\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sunshine Tour<\/a>&nbsp;by\nfinishing 4th at Q-school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Roos and Palmer will\nface some tough opposition from a field which will be itching to tee it up at\none of Kenya\u2019s most prestigious course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chief amongst them\nwill be Daniel van Tonder, who won his first\nSunshine Tour tournament in 2014 at the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Investec_Royal_Swazi_Open\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Investec Royal Swazi Open<\/a>\nand Hennie du Plessis winner of the Vodacom Origins \u2013 Sishen in\n2017.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also in the mix is\nZimbabwe\u2019s Ryan Cairns. The&nbsp;professional golfer from, Royal\nHarare Golf Club was among the star attractions last year upon clinching the&nbsp;<em>Hole-in-One<\/em>&nbsp;prize,&nbsp;<em>a<\/em>&nbsp;brand\nnew 3-litre 16 valve Toyota Land Cruiser Prado valued at Sh10.3 Million<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>KCB Karen Masters Tournament\nDirector Andy Watt has since announced a stellar entry comprising a huge chunk\nof South African high-flying pros. He nevertheless noted that the entry for\nthis year\u2019s event is already over-subscribed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe entry list as of now is\nover-subscribed with 165 players. We will have 100 senior professionals coming\nfrom the Sunshine Tour to be joined by 27 Kenyan pros selected from\nProfessional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) rankings,\u201d said Watt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He noted that \u201cthe\never-increasing\ninterest of elite Sunshine Tour pros is a&nbsp;testament to&nbsp;the\nevent&#8217;s growing popularity\u201d. Watt added that they will be targeting 5000\nspectators this year. Last year\u2019s edition attracted 2000 fans. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>KCB is sponsoring\nthis year\u2019s event to a lucrative tune of Ksh. 70 Million. The Bank has invited\npartners including Johnnie Walker, Standard Group, Coca Cola and DT Dobie to\nspice up the occasion at the village for the thousands of golf fans expected to\ngrace the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There will be a cut\non Friday 28<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;June that will see 152 golfers reduced to 60,\nwho will compete on the preceding last two rounds<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jake Roos and Michael Palmer will be returning to this year\u2019s KCB Karen Masters with fond memories.
