Martins Mutahi recorded 100% wins in day two to claim his maiden win at the National Scrabble Kenya Championships title in Murang\u2019a.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Acacia based player won 13 out 0f 18 matches for the maiden title since he started playing scrabble years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis is my first victory in the national Scrabble Championships. However, I have won in the Masters Category but this is very special for me,\u201d said Mutahi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the two day championships that started yesterday, Saturday June 7th<\/sup> to today\u2019s June 8th<\/sup>, he said that he faced a very stiff competition, slowing his title chase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI must admit that the tournament was very tough. I faced very tough opponents, disappointed at some point in the day but I had to recollect on day two to win all my games that propelled me to victory,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He says that as a milestone win, he will be celebrating the title with his team mates Acacia Club in Nairobi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThis victory is good as I plan to maintain my game and probably win in the next event,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On day one, he started on a bad note, losing the opening game to Kuria Githinji before back to back wins in 2 and 3 against Richard Okechi and Charles kariuki.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The sailing was not smooth as he lost game 4 and 5 to Francis Wachira and Ian Oyoo before recovering to beat SC president Kipkemoi Limo in game 6 before losing game 7 to Kipruto Tarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He defeated Kenya One Allan Oyende in game 8 then lost to Mark Owuor in game 9. His persistence earned him victory in game 10 against David Machanje and continued all the way with victories to game 18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Seeded 8, he relegated Patrick Gitonga Nderitu to second after winning 12 out of 18 as Stanley Njoroge completed the podium followed by former chairman Bernard Amuke, who enjoyed the lead until game 15th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Top ten finishers<\/p>\n\n\n\n 1.
