Despite shooting a blank in the last nine, former Eldoret club captain won the Commercial Bank of Africa (CBA) golf tournament played today on nine hole Eldoret Golf club.
Handicap 12 player shot a blank on par 3 hole 16 in second nine, it was the successful second half after sinking two birdies on holes 14 and 17 to emerge victorious with 38 stable ford points to beat other 71 golfers who turned for the bankers show.
The ever smiling Waweru started on a high note, shooting back to back pars on holes 1-3 before going three bogeys in the succeeding holes and recovered with double pars to end the inward nine with 21 stable ford points.
Waweru started badly with a double bogey in the inward nine par four with three bogeys and lifted his game to shot a birdie on hole 164 par 4, a bogey and a blank recovered well with a birdie on 17th hole par 4 to post 17 stable ford points.
He said that he played alongside encouraging team made up of Chris Pasha, Charles Ng’ang’a and Shadrack Lang’at.
“Today was a great day for me. The weather was good and the course was in good condition making it easy to get my shots correctly,” said Waweru.
Faith Mburu finished second with 37 points ahead of immediate captain Moses Tanui with 36 before Ardash Shah finshed 4th with 35 points beating Mathews Koech on Count back.
Virginia Mutei and Linda Tororei won the first and second nine prices with 19 and 20 points respectively as Ahmed Ferej took home nearest to the pin prize on hole 16 while long hitters Kennedy Serem and Satwinder Sagoo were the longest drive men and women winners.
