Jepchirchir and Korir win New York City marathon titles

Olympic marathon champion Peres Jepchirchir and former Kass Marathon champion Albert Korir extended the Kenyan dominance at the New York City Marathon held today in the USA.

Making her debut in the world marathon majors, the two time word half marathon champion Jepchirchir led a 1-2 podium finish for kenya when Viola Cheptoo Lagat finished second.

The Valencia marathon winner won the title in 2:22.39 with Lagat coming second timing 2:22.22 and Ethiopia’s Ababel Yeshaneh was third.

Korir won the men’s title in 2:08.22 beating Moroccan Mohamed El Aaraby to second and Eyob Faniel completing the podium.
