John Kamais on road to defend Hippo Pot title in Nyanza

John Kamais will be seeking to defend the Nyanza Open title, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series set for this weekend at the par 72 Nyanza Golf Club.

Popularly called Hippo Pot, the Nakuru golf club player won last year’s title, that was his maiden in the KAGC series and will be hoping to replicate the same since he has not recorded any victory in this year’s series that enters homestretch.

Kamais carded 9-over par 219 for the title ahead of team Kenya Captain John Lejirma (221), John Timbe (222), and John Koina (222).

This year, a total of 42 golfers will take to the course hoping to get a share of the KES 400,000 prize purse, including the Ugandan duo of Joseph Kasozi, who finished fifth last year, and Titus Okwong.

Elvis Muigua, William Odek, and Isaac Makokha are some of the other names on the list for the Nyanza showdown.

This follows last weekend’s David Kiragu winning the Tea Fields Trophy champion in Kericho.
