A week after guiding team Kenya to retain the Africa Region IV golf Championships title in Antananarivo, Madagascar, John Lejirma started where he left by winning Uhuru Shield in search of local points ahead of Magical Kenya Open.
As the penultimate round of the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) national series, Lejirma has kept the faith, leading the table and he cemented the pole after firing one over par 218 to win the Uhuru Shield title at the par 72 Royal Nairobi golf club.
The three day championships that came to an end yesterday, it was an intense and high-quality amateur golf, that delivered exceptional performances from a strong regional field, reaffirming the tournament’s stature as one of Kenya’s premier amateur events.
Home player Lejirma delivered a composed and consistent performance to secure the home side pride to claim one of the most coveted trophies on the KAGC circuit.
Finishing in second place was Yuvraj Rajput of Sigona, who carded a total of +5 (225) after a determined final round that kept him firmly in contention.
Third place went to Quram Bhatti of Muthaiga with +7 (227). Bhatti, one of the top-ranked players in the field, delivered a solid performance throughout the championship.
Former champion Isaac Makokha of Kenya Railways completed the top four, finishing at +8 (228). His return to the Uhuru Shield once again demonstrated the consistency and competitive spirit that defined his previous win.
