National team Kenya captain John Lejirma will be chasing for a hat-trick at this weekend’s Ronald Marshall & Toby Gibson Trophy golf tournament, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series at the par 72 Njoro golf club in Nakuru County.
Lejirma will be among the 45 talented golfers in the highly anticipated event promising a fierce competition as players vie for the prestigious titles in this annual showcase of golfing excellence that starts tomorrow Friday May 23rd to May 25th.
Ranked top amateur in the country, Lejirma will be adding an extra layer of excitement, with many expecting him to defend his title successfully.
He is expected to face off with notable competitors such as Elvis Muigua and Naomi Wafula confirming that the course is in pristine condition, providing an ideal setting for this esteemed event. He warmly welcomes all players and spectators, emphasizing the club’s readiness to host a memorable competition.
The tournament will be played in a matchplay format, following an 18-hole stroke play qualifier. Only the top 16 players from the qualifier will advance to the knockout stages, where strategies and nerves will be put to the test in pursuit of the coveted trophies.

Last year, the champion defeated Rwandese international Felix Dusabe for the title at the final round in the three day championships.
To reach the final, the Kenya Railways player, Lejirma defeated Golf Park’s Amos Odongo 2-1 while Dusabe from Kigali Golf club beat Muthaiga’s John Koina in the 20th hole after level play in the 18-hole play.
At the quarterfinals, it was a repeat of last year final when Lejirma faced off with Kiambu’s Elvis Muigai, where the later was seeking the revenge that failed with the former winning with one hole
