Kabras Sugar defeated Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) to lift the inaugural Lake Victoria Cup played today at the Mambo leo stadium in Kisumu.
The millers were narrowly won 17-13 against students in the run up to the Kenya Cup seasooff in two week’s time.
MMUST were the first on the score sheet when Nelson Rabu touched down with Erick Cantona failing to convert for a 5-0 lead. But the celebrations were cut short after David Williams scored the first try and Natben Dukisa failing to convert for a 5-all draw.
However, the energetic Kabras took the lead when Dukisa failed to convert barry Robinson’s try for a 10-5 lead but Dukisa made the amends when he added the extras with Alfred Arege’s try for a 17-5 lead. Canton converted a penalty for the students for a 17-8 lead before Lameck Ambetsa failed to convert his try for a 17-3 final score.
In the play-offs, Western Bulls defeated hosts Kisumu RFC 23-15 in the earlier match played at the same venue.
