A field of 157 amateurs are set to battle for the Sigona Bowl title, the opening leg of the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series this weekend at the par 72 Sigona Golf Club.
The 54 hole three day will tee off on Friday morning all the way to Sunday, which is a World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) will see top amateurs battle for the crown as they seek to compete at the 2025 magical Kenya Open and the Kenya One crown that will take place at the end of the season at Nyali Open come December.
This year, the Kenya Golf Union has lined up 27 amateur events that will culminate at the Nyali Open.
The union has also revived the Diani Beach Masters that will be played at the Diamond Leisure Lodge Golf Resort in the Coast Region from October 18-24.
However, the amateurs will be battling out with the defending champion Michael Karanga who will be up to defend the title he won last year.
The Kiambu golfer, who went ahead to win the overall title managed to fire 10 under par 62 in the third and final round for a total of four under par 212 to beat home player Sandeep Matharu with a total of four under par 212.
Fresh from leading his club mate Steve Kiaro to win the Nairobi District Foursome after defeating Vet Lab’s pair of Ebill Omollo and Lee Njoroge 3-1 for the title.
The victory was good for Kiambu, who had taken 40 years to win the title.
