Karari to face Lejirma, Balala on road to defend Manchester Salver title in Eldoret

Simon Karari will be chasing for a chance to defend his Manchester Salver, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series on par 71 Eldoret golf club this weekend.

Last year, Karari defeated top golfers to win the title, the first of his career in the series after firing five over par 147.

“Yes I have been training well in my club with hopes of retaining my title. Right now am training with shot games and heading to Eldoret, I want to do my best,” said Karari.

The Limuru based golfer will be taking on series leader and Kenya Amateur Stroke-play champion John Lejirma Kenya Captain Dennis Maara, Adel Balala, defending champion Simon Karari, hosts Aron Kitur, former captain jack Tuwei among others for the title chase.

Lejirma said that he wants to win the title as he chases to become Kenya One after qualifying for 2023 Magical Kenya Golf Championships.

“I have confidence of winning the title since I’m in perfect form, with good swing and pride as the leader. I know the tournament will be tough but I am also ready for the battle. Since I have already made it to the prestigious Magical Open, points at this time matters a lot,” he said.

Lejirma has managed to take the lead with 569 points ahead of second placed Jay Sandhu from Royal Club and Ugandan Michael Alunga completing the top three with 474 and 467 respectively, Lejirma will be teeing off at 8:40am alongside Eldoret’s Mathew Koech and Nandi Bear’s chairman Kenduiwo Kimeli Mutai.

Maara from Limuru golf club is in the 4th position on 427 points, leading Sammy Mulama to 5th with 294 and junior player Njoroge Kibugu completing the top six list with 258 points.
