Former champions KCB Rugby humiliated Strathmore Leos to win the Driftwood 7s, the opening leg of Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) national 7s circuit at the Mombasa Sports Club.
The bankers took it easy to win 15-14 against the Strathmore University students
It was 15-0 at break with three tries, and all missed conversions.
But tables changed after water break with Leos taking charge with a converted try from Barnabas Owuor, the first try for students 15-07.
With bankers reduced to six players after a bin on Floyd Wabwire after a high tackle, Leos capitalized on numbers to score a penalty try for a 15-14.
Despite their second half battle, they lost with a point to the bankers ahead of Prinsloo 7s next weekend in Nakuru’s Athletics Club.
The champions KCB edged out their arch rivals Kabras Sugar in the second semifinal at 10-05 while Leos were 28-0 winners over Nakuru RFC.
In quarterfinals, Nakuru edged out series and meeting champions Kenya Harlequins 19-14 as Leos beat Nondescripts 15-10 before Kabras beating their neighbours in the kakamega derby Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology 31-0 and KCB beating Menengai Oilers 29-0.
