Kenya 4x400m swimmers make it to finals in Birmingham

Kenya Swimming 4x400m relay team has qualified to compete at the finals of the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.

The quartet of Imara Bella Thorpe, Emily Muteti, Ridhwan Abubakar and Maina Monyo swum to the final in their maiden appearance at the Games after clocking 3:45.36 to finish second in the first heat behind Singapore who triumphed in 3:33.71.

Hosts England claimed the second heat in 3:28.03, beating Wales and Scotland to second and third places in 3:29.66 and 3:31.09 respectively to all qualify.

Australia’s team won the third heat in the fastest qualifying time of 3:22.14 after seeing off Canada and Jersey in 3:28 and 3:42.92 respectively.

But it was disappointing when Abubakar, Thorpe and Muteti faield to qualify into the semi-finals after finishing 5th, in 50m butterfly heat in 25.92, Thorpe won the first heat in 1:02.16 in 100m butterfly with Muteti coming 4th to fail to qualify.
