Kenya Prisons crowned Mwalim Julius Nyerere Cup champions

Multiple Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) champions Kenya Prisons men team defeated Serengeti to win the 26th edition of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Memorial Volleyball Cup that came to an end today at the Temeke Mwembeyanga Sports Complex in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The Kenyan side lacked respect for the hosts, winning 3-1 at 25-21, 22-25, 25-19, and 25-20 for the title.

With the tournament attracting teams from the continent, comprising of Malawi, Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya, Burundi and Rwanda, it was Kenyan side that dominated the cuo launched to celebrate the founding Tanzanian President Julius Nyerere.

Unbeaten Prisons led pool A against JKT 3-0 in the quarterfinals then shown Chema VC in straight sets (25-22, 25-20, 25-23) in the semi-finals to book Serengeti into the final.

For Kenya Prisons, who finished fourth in both the National League play-offs and the inaugural Kenya Cup, the Nyerere Cup triumph provides a timely morale boost as they prepare for the new domestic season.
