Kenya stun Australia to secure quarterfinals FIH Hockey5s World cup against Oman

The Kenya men Hockey 5s team defeated Australia to secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the ongoing FIH Hockey5s World cup in Muscat, Oman.

Kenya beat Australia 7-4 in the final pool C match alongside New Zealand, Australia and Trinidad and Tobago.

With the victory, Kenya will now face hosts Oman on Wednesday in the quarterfinals.

Danstone Wabwire and Ivan Ludiali were the stars of the match both hitting hat-trick’s. Bethuel Masambu also contributed to the score sheet, to secure a significant victory for Kenya.

With this win, the team has accumulated six points, a point behind leaders Trinidad and Tobago, and is guaranteed a spot in the last eight.

Wabwire expressed his joy after securing the semi final spot noting that the team had been improving since the first tournament game against New Zealand.

Kenya began the tournament with a dominant 6-1 win over New Zealand on Sunday but fell to Trinidad after a 7-2 humbling in their second match played in the evening.

The Pool has seen some exciting matches where Trinidad & Tobago played to a 5-5 draw against Australia on Sunday.  

New Zealand edged out Australia 6-5 while Trinidad and Tobago secured the top spot in the pool with a convincing 11-4 victory over New Zealand.

Netherlands were the first team to secure a spot in the quarterfinals with victories against Poland and Pakistan.
