Former 3,000m Commonwealth Youth champion Richard Kimunayn and Josephine Chelangat were crowned the champions of the 4th and last leg Athletics Kenya cross country championships staged in Kisii today.
The Africa 3,000m junior bronze medalist anchored Torongo team from Baring county to top the championships, following in the footsteps of his training mate Cleophas Kandie who won 8km junior men category.
Training under retired Kirobon High school principal Barnabas Kitilit, Kimunyan clocked 28:58.4 to cliam the 10km senior men’s race ahead of Davis Kiplagat (29:02.40 and neighbor Gilbert Kimunyan who won 10km at Kass title in November in 29:04.8.
The weekend meetings are build-up to the world cross country championships set for Aarhus, Denmark.
Josephine Chelangat won the senior women’s title in 34:01.9 edging out Margaret Wangare to second position in 34:02.2 as Qualine Kiprop ended the podium timing 34:15.5.
