Kipkeino Classic is a recipe for World championships- Amina

With less than two weeks to KipKeino Classic, the world Athletics Continental Tour, the government through the ministry of Sports will allow a maximmu of 6,000 fans at the 30,000 seater Nyayo stadium.

Speaking during the launch of the event set to be held on October 4rd, sports cabinet secretary Amina Mohammed said that the figure is only 20% of the sitting capacity at the facility.

We are expecting more than 100 foreign athletes who have been confirmed for the event,” said Amina.

With Kenya having already submitted a bid to host the World Championships in 2025, Amina said the success of hosting the event will go along way in boosting Kenya’s chances of the Worlds.

“The success of the forthcoming Kip Keino Classic Continental Tour will set the pace in the country’s  ambition to host the 2025 World Athletics Championship,” said Amina

Athletics Kenya chairman Jack Tuwei said that local athletes have been selected using various criteria.

Some athletes were ranked at the Doha World Championships, 2019 African Games and national championships,” said Tuwei.

The Continental Tour comes after Kenya successfully held the World U-18 Championships in 2017 and is set to host the world U-20 set for July next year.
