Pascal Kiptoo, Joel Odhiambo and Kelly Mwaniki guided St. Patrick’s Iten to emerge as overall champions at the concluded Kenya National Youth cadets and Chess Championships (KNYCCC) held at the Khadija Secondary School in Mombasa County.
Mwaniki managed 5.0 points to lead the school in the boys under 18 categories.
The school Chess instructor Shem Atiagaga Vilembwa said the students performed well because of the support from the school administration.
“we get good support from the school. The students get all support they need to progress in their chess career,” said Vilelmbwa.
He added that they have been training well at school to enable them take to others by storm and that paid off.
“The school administration has bought a chess board in each class enabling students to have ample playing time in school,” added Vilelmbwa, who is also the North Rift Chess Kenya coordinator.
