Kelvin Kiptum ran away with the Valencia marathon title held today in Valencia Spain to become the third fastest marathoner in the world after Eliud Kipchoge and Kenenisa Bekele.
In women, Ethiopian Amane Beriso won the title.
Making his debut in the 42km race, the Kaptagat based runner won the race with a course record of 2:01.53 as the only the fastest marathon debut to erase the course record that was held by compatriot Evans Chebet.
Tanzania’s Gabriel Geay (2:03:00) was second with Alexander Mutiso sealing the podi in 2:03:29.
Beriso won the women’s race in a course record of 2:14:58 ahead of compatriot Letesenbet Gidey (2:16:49) and Sheila Chepkirui in 2:17:29.
