Nandi Bears golfer Nelson Koech fired four birdies to take round one lead with three shots at the Manchester Salver, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) meeting on par 71 Eldoret golf club.
Fresh from winning the Nandi Open Shield Open at his home club three weeks ago, Koech fired a total of two under par 69 to take an overnight lead ahead of tomorrow’s final round in a 36-hole tournament on a nine-hole Eldoret course.
Koech said that he wants to extend his good swing on the final day tomorrow to win a double ahead of 2022 Magical Kenya Open Golf championships that will be held at the Karen club.
“Am focusing on the final day of the tournament knowing very well that the guys behind me are also working hard. I want to maintain the game, try my level best to clinch the title,” said Koech.
In the opening nine, the slender player started off with back to back pars in holes one to 3, subk the first birdie in the 4th, leveled in 5th dropped one in 6th, parred in 7th and 8th before he birdied in the 9th for -1.
On the turn, he shot three birdies in 13th, 17th and 18th parred in 11th, 12th, 14th and 15th and dropped one in the 10th and 16th for another one under par.
He leads the overnight with three shots against Vet lab’s Ebill Omollo who played one over par 72.
