Kenyan John Korir was the surprise winner of the Los Angeles marathon held today in the USA while Kenya Antonina Kwambai settled in second position.
The young brother of former Boston marathon champion Wesley Korir won the men’s marathon in 2:12.47 beating compatriot Edwin Kimutai to second in 2:18.01 and Amanuel Mesei Tikue completing the podium in 2:18.17.
In his facebook page, Wesley congratulated John saying he has handed over the baton well.
“I want to take this opportunity to congratulate my little brother John Korir for winning the LA Marathon today! I can now officially hand over the mantle to you. It feels great to see history repeat itself!” wrote Korir, the former Cherangany legislature.
In women, kenya’s Kwambai was the best, finishing second in 2:37.35 behind the champion Natasha Cockram (2:33.16) and Nina Zarina was third in 2:37.36.
