Harambee Starlets keeper Annedy Kundu is lamenting that coronavirus will depress football players.
Speaking to Kick442.com the Lakatamia custodian impressed scouts during the 2019 CECAFA senior women’s competition last November in Tanzania earning a three-year-deal abroad.
The former Eldoret Falcons keeper said: “It is a new set up, I must confess, I am still adapting. It is completely different from the Kenya Premier League.”
The 22-year-old spent three years on the books Eldoret Falcons in a crucial period of her development as she earned her place between the sticks for the Kenya women’s team and deal abroad.
Like her peers around the world, she is an under-charged player these days. Attempts to avoid contracting the Covid-19 has restricted her to practice sessions from home only.
“It is a very difficult situation and stressful too. Having to work from home is not all that easy. It is my wish to see it end soonest it may make players depressed. In the meantime players must focus on life after it instead of the present. I hope it will end soon. I carryout fitness exercises daily, that keeps me going
Daughter of Jane Kundu, Annedy has impressed since she arrived Cyprus. She has featured in two of her clubs four games this season surely close to her mum’s expectation.
Gifted with an ex Athlete as a mum, a teacher as a Dad [Reuben Kundu] and an elder sister excelling in Volleyball, Agripina Kundu, she clearly stated words of advices from these formidable entourage especially her elder sister is helping her growth in the sports industry.
“Agripina is a great Athlete, she remains an important part of my career. She always guides me and encourage me. Having her and mum with a good knowledge of the sports industry is a great advantage, Dad too has been very pushful” African continent plying her trade abroad
She is one
of just four Kenyan players plying their trade abroad. She has the luxury of
having international colleague Ruth Ingotsi as club mate.
Starlet captain Esse Akida of Besiktas and Corazone Aquino complete the Kenyan
quartet that mentors the rest of the girls back home.
Kundu is already thinking about the upcoming 2020 women’s African cup of nations qualifiers and hoping to take Kenya back to the continental scene.
“With the current situation, we don’t know when the qualifiers will take place. We discuss it amongst ourselves, we want to qualify for the competition again” Kundu concluded.
