New row talents will be discovered soon in Kenya following the launch of second edition of Laurendi Sports today in Eldoret.
The launch today became a paradigm shift for locals who are well versed with athletics and today’s launch brings in other sporting activities in the North Rift region where young talents will compete in volleyball, handball, darts among other indoor championships.
Having volleyball as the second lovable sport in the region, youths have been challenged to take part in the tournament that will take place on 13th and 14th in Ziwa, uasin Gishu County.
As a rural set up, where many talents are inactive, the tournament will be a haven for the youths.
Speaking to press in Eldoret, Laurendi Sports director Lawrence Koech said their main mandate is to nurture raw talent from the local youth since volleyball is second loved sports in the region.
The April event will be the second one after one held in December 2016 in Ziwa where 16 teams from different parts of the country took part.
“The launch of this tournament will go a long way in assisting our youth develop their talents. Our core mandate is to promote talents among locals as we tap raw talents in the region. With such event, we provide the youth with chance to showcase their talents,” said Koech.
Last year they started with volleyball as their inaugural tournament but this year they have added more indoor games so that they tap more talents since some of indoor games are competed in Olympics and Commonwealth Games but many youths do not get chance to participate in those games.
He added, some companies employ youth who are good in playing volleyball which is a good thing since it promotes employment.
The tournament will consist of both gender men and women, darts and table tennis will be individual while handball will also feature for both men and women teams.
“Winners in volleyball event will pocket kshs 100,000 and 20, 000 for second finisher while handball prize money will be 15,000. Apart from cash prizes, there will be certificates, best player, coaches and most disciplined players.
